My Top Ten Books: Great books I’ve read, loved and TOTALLY recommend!

Ever finish that wonderful book and not know which book I should read next? Well, this page will share my top ten books and recommended books so… look no further!

I love to read! There are so many great books out there, that I figured I’d share my favourite book (s). The ones that I bought just so that I could share with people I cared about.

I wouldn’t recommend them unless I’ve read them and think they’re AWESOME!!!

If you do decide to check them out, please check-out the links to Amazon, so if you end up getting them, a little bit of your sale goes back to me. It allows me to keep this site funded…

There aren’t too many books on here since I would only put books I’ve read and LOVE… there are MANY more books I’ve read, but have since forgotten. These ones, I think… perhaps I should read that one again!

Financial books: If you want to be financially independent

  1. Rich Dad Poor Dad: What The Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!
by Robert Kiyosaki– if you want a basis for understanding how to make money and how to live a life not of a 9-5, this will help change the way you think at life!

Four Hour Workweek

  1. The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich
by Timothy Ferriss awesome book to help you automate your life, and particularly how to outsource an existing small business you might already have.

  1. Rule #1: The Simple Strategy for Successful Investing in Only 15 Minutes a Week!
: the Simple Strategy for Successful Investing in only 15 minutes a week! By Phil Town – this book is about stocks. I didn’t really believe it fully, until I followed the steps, and made 10% in 3 months… then I stopped cause I wasn’t sure, and now, the stock I’d found (with the research that he’d suggested), has more than doubled in 4 years!!! I will be doing more stock trading now!!!

Travel: There aren’t many books I’d recommend on travel, since I think it’s best experienced there, but this one is AWESOME!

  1. Vagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long-Term World Travel : by Rolf Potts – it’s all about long term world travel and the culture of travel as a lifestyle. If you like to travel, then this is a must-read! It’ll probably inspire you more!

Diet and the food you eat

  1. Diet for a New America: How Your Food Choices Affect Your Health, Happiness and the Future of Life on Earth
: How your food choices affect your health, happiness and the future life on Earth by John Robbins– The author of this book is the son of Baskins and Robbins. If you’ve ever wanted to know where your food comes from, and why there are so many illness epidemics (from Cancer to heart disease) then this book is for you. Another similar book that many people I know have enjoyed is Skinny Bitch by Kim Barnouin and Rory Freedman.

  1. MAD COWBOY: Plain Truth from the Cattle Rancher Who Won’t Eat Meat
by Howard F Lyman and Glen Merzer – This book is written by a guy who was a cattle rancher who gets very sick and ends up drastically changing his diet and reveals the behind-the-scenes of cattle ranching and farming. He was featured on Oprah.

Global/Green issues

  1. Sea Sick: The Global Ocean in Crisis
: by Alanna Mitchel The global ocean in crisis by Alanna Mitchell- having studied a lot of environmental topics in school, there hasn’t been much that I have found as drastically new information. This one does. It shares SO much about the oceans that EVERYONE should know! Great book.

  1. A Short History of Progress
by Ronald Wright– this book is all about the collapses of many civilizations and the histories of why some civilizations failed (ex. Easter Island) and why some are still around (ex. Egypt). I’m not even a history buff, and I love this one. Plus, it’s small, so a nice easy read. This is one that I’ve read parts of twice (which is rare for me).

  1. Builders of the Pacific Coast
    – Lloyd Kahn (and any of his building books) – if you like to look at neat and beautiful houses, than these books are for you. They are inspirational and just great for a coffee table, or as a read or great ideas for your own future house. Other books of his that are beautiful are: Tiny Homes: Simple Shelter , Home Work: Handbuilt Shelter, and his first: Shelter . All are amazing with inspirational pictures.

  1. Blue Gold: The Battle Against Corporate Theft of World’s Water
: by Maude Barlow and Tony Clarke – if you drink water and buy bottled water, this book is all about the industry of selling what comes out of a tap. Heavy read – jam-packed with information, but so informational.

General Non-Fiction

  1. The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference
and other books by Malcolm Gladwell – this book (and Malcolm Gladwell’s other books) make you look at the world and the relationships between everything in life from a new lens.

(yes, I know the number is past my top ten books… but heck, they’re my favourite book (s) and from totally different genres).

Fiction:

This list is pretty short, since I generally read Non fiction.  But, if someone recommends a book… I’ll read it! 🙂

  1. The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini – these are great books. Recommended.

  1. Oryx and Crake
by Margaret Atwood – this is another book that I would read again. There is so much to get out of this book. About a future earth, with similar parallels to life now and where we might be headed. TOTALLY recommended.

  1. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy
by Stieg Larsson – this series is one that you’ll not want to put down. Great story, well written. It was recommended to me, and I’ll do the same!

CRAZY Biographies

  1. Welcome to Hell- One Man’s Fight For Life Inside The Bangkok Hilton
by Colin Martin. I read this book while in Thailand, and it made me never want to spend any time in a Thai prison (it can happen if you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time).

  1. Shantaram
by Gregory David Roberts – about a guy who escapes prison and escapes to India and becomes a slum doctor among MANY other things. Another book I’d read again (it seems like I’d read a lot… but of the hundreds of books… this is my top ten books… bunch!).

  1. Yes Man
by Danny Wallace – I read this book while in Thailand too, and found it to be quite inspiring. A great way to look at the world differently.

Sex : what list would be complete without something about sex!

  1. The Male Brain and the The Female Brain by Louann Brizendine – Great information. I love learning about why people do what they do.

  1. Scentsational Sex– by Alan R. Hirsch.   This book explains how scent makes up more of our lives than we have ANY idea!  Great book.

Now that you’ve read my top ten book list (maybe a bit more… of TOTALLY recommended books… I hope you’ll forgive me)
